HI-FIVES - (Highly Interactive Fun Internet Virtual Environments in Science) - an NSF-funded research program that has students and teachers working together to design games using both ActiveWorlds and a modified version of the Half-Life 2 game called Virtuoso.

 

Joystick101 - This blog is dedicated to looking at questions around games, learning, and schools in specific. The site is currently being reworked to deal with recent corruption by harmful software. The link here will go live when the site is safe again.

Local Games Lab - This is the project focusing on augmented reality games within GLS. The Local Games Lab develops games for hand helds by actively partnering with real classrooms. More information can be on their website.

"Serious games":  simulations for education (i.e. pediatric critical care transport teams from last year; combat simulators)--Caro

Serious games should have a general definition, then on this page we should list some specific ones (i.e. Darfur is Dying, World without Oil, etc.) We could however have a header on this page (same with ARGHs and Epistemics)

Terra Nova - This is a research oriented blog dedicated to examining the development of and issues around Virtual Worlds. Scholars from a wide variety fo disciplines post their thoughts the blog about recent events or bigger questions related to these worlds.

 

USeIT Project - (Using Squeak to Infuse Information Technology into the STEM Curriculum) - a three-year, NSF-funded project hosted by UNCW in which students and teachers work collaboratively to build/program models in Squeak (a media-authoring environment based on SmallTalk) related to concepts in science, technology, and mathematics.  Part of this project has been to have students create games, in Squeak, that are also education-oriented.
